Choosing a diamond comes down to four things jewellers call the 4Cs. Here's what each one means, in plain terms.
Carat
Carat measures a diamond's weight, not its size — two diamonds of the same carat weight can look different sizes depending on how they're cut. 1 carat equals 0.2 grams.
Cut
Cut is about how well a diamond's facets interact with light — it's the single biggest factor in how much a diamond sparkles. A well-cut diamond of a smaller carat weight can outshine a larger, poorly cut one.
Colour
Diamonds are graded from D (colourless) to Z (noticeably yellow or brown). Most people can't tell the difference between a D and an H in a mounted ring, so this is often a good place to save without sacrificing beauty.
Clarity
Clarity refers to internal marks (inclusions) or surface marks (blemishes). Most inclusions are invisible to the naked eye — you're really only paying for what a jeweller's loupe can see.
Our approach
Every diamond we set is hand-selected in Antwerp's Diamond District and comes with independent certification. If you're not sure where to start, tell us your budget and priorities and we'll talk you through the trade-offs.
